Katie, founder of In Her Company Tours

Let me show you around my city.

You’re going to love Victoria — its mix of old and new, its gorgeous walkable streets, and most of all, its extraordinary independent businesses.

My love affair started with a morning coffee and a walk down an unexpected alleyway. Then up a flight of stairs and into a shop that stops you in your tracks.

That space belongs to one of the women you’ll meet on the tour. She transformed every inch of her shop herself. She hunted down chandeliers at antique markets and thrifted everything else. The bookshelves hide a secret. The fitting room light is deliberately flattering. Nothing in this shop is random. That’s the kind of woman I want to introduce you to.

So I started thinking about how I could bring together two things I care about deeply: my love of downtown Victoria and its audacious women-owned businesses, and my lifelong obsession with getting people together.

A trip to Montreal to celebrate my 50th with my high school girlfriends sealed the deal. We did a food tour, but my friends and I kept stopping to photograph shop windows we wanted to track back to. Were they touristy? Do locals actually go there? Would we feel out of place walking in?

I knew I could answer all of those questions for Victoria. So I did.

A few chapters that got me here.

Magazines

How to cut the waffle and keep the gold.

Ten years across titles like Vogue, Harper's Bazaar and Women's Health taught me to come at storytelling from all kinds of angles.

Tourism

How to keep a group from nodding off.

Most people tune out the moment a guide starts a monologue. I learned early that connection beats commentary.

Career coaching

How to really listen.

Coaching women taught me to help them find their passions and back themselves.

Sports & leadership camps

Why it all starts early.

Running camps for girls reminded me: the confidence, the ambition, the belief that they can build something. I've been invested in that pipeline for a long time.

And I love getting older, and wiser, and giving fewer shits and taking more risks.

In Her Company is what happens when all of that collides — the city I love, the women helping it thrive, and my belief that the best experiences happen in good company.

When you join me, you'll leave feeling less like a visitor and more like someone who belongs here — even just for a few days.
